Not All Heroes Wear Capes—Some Teach
The 2025 National Teachers’ Month, themed “My Teacher, My Hero,” Happened on October 2, 2025 at Ilocos Sur National High School was a heartfelt tribute to the educators who shape our lives with strong foundation, wisdom, patience, and passion for teaching. Spearheaded by the National Teachers’ Month Coordinating Council (NTMCC) and supported by the Department of Education and Metrobank Foundation, this year’s celebration focused on Early Childhood Care and Development, while also honoring teachers across all levels for their quiet heroism.
As a student, I actively participated in several events that
made this celebration truly memorable. I joined the Teachers’ Day parade, a
vibrant show of unity and appreciation. I also took part in the Sagala
organized by the Supreme Student Government (SSLG), where we honored our
teachers with grace and tradition together with their arcs. One of the most
touching moments was when we surprised our teachers with cakes—a sweet gesture
that brought smiles and tears of joy.
These acts reminded me that gratitude doesn’t need to be grand; it just needs to be sincere. During the SSLG-led Teachers’ Day event, we cheered loudly for our subject teachers who danced in the inter-department contest. Seeing them perform with joy and energy was inspiring, it showed that teachers are not just mentors, but also artists, dancers, leaders, and role models. Our cheers were more than noise; they were echoes of admiration for their resilience and passion.
I express my gratitude by striving to be the best version of
myself—because every achievement I reach is a reflection of their guidance. I
also make it a point to say “thank you,” to listen, and to support school
initiatives that uplift our educators. I am especially thankful for their
patience and understanding, which have helped me grow not just academically,
but emotionally and morally. Truly, my teachers are my heroes—not because they
wear capes, but because they carry the weight of our futures with grace.
But the celebration didn’t end in just a day. The week after, we surprised our teachers once again—especially our dear adviser, with a letchon prank that, while it turned into a complete disaster, brought a genuine smile to her face. That moment alone made everything worth it.
The boys followed with an intermission dance that filled the
room with energy and laughter. Then came a magical moment: we invited our
adviser to dance, and with romantic music playing softly in the background, she
moved gracefully, as if reliving her teenage days. Her joy was contagious.
To cap it all off, we sang our Teachers’ Day song, watched
her blow out the candles on her cake, and handed her flowers with heartfelt
gratitude. It was more than a celebration—it was a memory etched in all our
hearts.
Indeed, it was a remarkable Teachers’ Day.

Teachers’ Day is a wonderful reminder of the dedication, patience, and passion that teachers bring to shaping young minds. Their hard work and guidance inspire students to dream big and reach their full potential. Thank you to all the amazing teachers who make learning a joyful and meaningful journey!
